Chateauneuf du Faou is only 8km away a beautiful Breton market town nestling in the Montagnes Noires. 18 bars, several good restaurants (recommend Le Relais de Cornouaille), regular Breton Festivals and a brilliant Jazz Festival on the banks of the beautiful River l'Aulne in August. The town is amazingly unspoiled and underplayed in all the guide books. The town of Carhaix is only 7km away. In late July it hosts a famous 3 day rock festival (U2 ,Bruce Springsteen, Muse and the Killers have recently played there). The medieval city of Quimper is a little over 20 minutes away with its spectacular cathedral, fascinating winding streets, half timbered buildings and chic shops, bars and restaurants. A little further inland lies the quaint lakeside town of Huelgoat with mystery walks into the forest with its enormous and fascinating boulders.Chateaulin is the largest main town to the house approximately 15 minutes away by car, and has a very reliable train station which goes to other larger towns like Brest or Quimper.Chateaulin is located on the banks of the river l'Aulne, it has plenty of shops, bars restaurants, banks and is renowned for its famous salmon run through the town with day permits readily available.

"great holiday"
We had a wonderful holiday at TirNaNog, thank you so much. It was a lovely clean, cosy and very friendly family house, superb location for seeing all the sights of Brittany, forests of Huelgoat, beaches, quaint old towns, too many places to mention. Barbecue dinners in the garden and swings etc for the kids, a safe garden for our 3 dogs, all brilliant. We had a fantastic time, such a magical place, would love to visit again

"We Loved Tirnanog!!!!!!!!!!!"
My husband three children and I spent a great week at Tirnanog. Although not the ideal time of year weatherwise it didn't spoil our time there. The house was as described and spotlessly clean. It was well equipped, it was quite funny watching UK tv in France, great for the kids! Alice was very helpful, welcomed us, showed us around the house and told us about the area. She called in midweek to see if we were ok-- Thanks Alice! We would wholeheartedly recommend Tirnanog to anyone and will return in the summer.
Response to review:
Really glad you enjoyed your stay. We hope the weather will be better for you in the summer!!!

"A sunny 2 weeks in Tir na Nog"
Only getting round to writing a few words about our wonderful holiday last summer in Tir na Nog. The house was great - our two girls loved the garden - very safe and enclosed. Alice was so helpful - replying to any queries and even called over in helping to erect the paddling pool! John too was very easy to deal with in terms of the booking etc. The house is well kept and spotlessly clean. When we were there in August, the weather was fab - though it was harvest time and there seemed to be a lot of agricultural machinery passing by so it was a little noisy at times - can't be helped when holidaying in the countryside! As I've left it so long, I can't quite remember the names of the the various places we visited - a couple of theme parks for the children - one near Brest was great value and only about an hour away. We also visited the aquarium in Brest - it was only the only wet day we got and unsurprisingly was very busy so not the nicest of experiences. Heulegoat is worth a visit - very picturesque and lovely to out on the boats on the lake. All in all, would have no hesitation in recommending!

Hi Sandy and John
Just to thank you for letting us stay in your lovely house. We had a great time and weather was very kind to us too. It’s situated in a great spot and we took advantage of all that the location had to offer; as well as other places further afield. Please could you thank Laura for coming out to us, as we had a problem with the phone and were late owing to heavy traffic further down the country. We wouldn't hesitate to book again with you if available when we are all off. I've now got to contemplate marking books and thinking about lesson planning before school starts again – back to reality!
Thanks again. Terry
Had a fantastic stay, the house is marvellous and is set in wonderful countryside. Have enjoyed all of our visits; Concarneau, Quimper, Oceanopolis-Brest (worth visiting!) Pointe de Raz and Crozon peninsula were stunning!
Thanks to Dave & Laura for their help The photos on the Owners Direct website do not do this beautiful house justice! John, Sian
About the Owner
We are both retired teachers, married with grown up children. Our grandchildren love the house in Brittany, the different way of life and the friendly environment.
We have a smashing couple who look after the house for us, Alice and Will.
Year property purchased: 2004
Why this location?
We regulary went on holiday to France, but until eight years ago had never been to Brittany. In 2004 we rented a cottage in Finistere. To our surprise we found that Brittany was so different to any other region we had visited. The pace of life is so slow, the people so friendly it is like Britain in the 1950s!The countryside is beautiful and unspoilt. The sea is within easy reach, from rugged headlands to golden quiet beaches. A shock was the lack of traffic on the roads, driving became a pleasure again! One day we by chance we looked in an estate agents window and saw TirNaNog for sale we fell in love with it.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
The house is in the hamlet of Bodizel just outside Spezet. We love sitting in the garden, having a bbq in peace and quiet. At night we can sit in the garden and see so many stars in the sky, no light pollution here! The house is everything we dreamed of, exposed beams and stonework, the bread oven in the kitchen. Some evenings it is nice to go into nearby Spezet and sit outside a bar with a glass of wine looking at the multi- coloured buildings the village is famous for. The village has some excellent restaurants with friendly staff and reasonable prices, children are welcomed. The house although in a tranquil setting is not isolated. It is ideally placed to discover Brittany, roads links are excellent and quiet.
